mPower Technology, Inc. has raised $21 million in a Series B round to scale production of its DragonSCALES solar modules, targeting both national security and commercial markets.
The company, a spinout from Sandia National Laboratories, developed DragonSCALES—flexible, lightweight solar cells known as “solar glitter”—as a cost-effective alternative to traditional gallium arsenide-based solar technologies.
The funding round was led by defense-focused venture firms Razor’s Edge Ventures and Shield Capital, following an earlier Series A led by Cottonwood Technology Fund.
mPower’s DragonSCALES technology is already utilized by aerospace companies such as Airbus, Blue Origin/Honeybee Robotics, Firefly Aerospace, Lynk Global, and Gravitics for various space applications.
The new capital will be used to enhance mPower’s high-volume automated manufacturing capabilities, aiming to meet the growing demand for resilient and scalable solar power solutions in space missions.
With the increasing need for affordable and scalable solar power in space, mPower is positioning itself as a key supplier for next-generation satellite constellations and space infrastructure projects.
